You recently read about how we have teamed up with The Children’s Book Project.
The charity seeks to tackle book poverty and give every child the opportunity to own their own book. Book ownership has been directly linked with improved mental health among children, and this year the charity will gift more than 400,000 books to children through their schools and other settings.
As well as making a monthly donation to the charity based on every client referral and every piece of new business we write, our team also recently headed down to the project hub for a “volunteer day”.
Altura team sort and pack 3,000 books
Late last month, the team at Altura spent a day at The Children’s Book Project helping the team distribute thousands of books to good homes across the capital.
The team sorted and packed around 3,000 books that will soon be on their way to London schools and into the hands of deserving children.
We also heard how a shockingly high number of children do not have any books at home, and what a difference a first book of their own can make.
Indeed, reading fluency itself has a significant impact on children’s successful progression through education. By age 11, there is a 12-month language development gap between children from “book-rich” homes and those with fewer than 10 books.
All the new and used books the project send out are donated, with most coming from families happy to find new homes for the books their children have grown out of.
The team then work closely with children’s centres and schools to distribute the books into the hands of those children that will benefit from them.
It’s an amazing project and it was a privilege to witness and play a small part.
We’re also delighted to continue to support the cause by making regular donations based on each new:
- Mortgage application
- Protection policy
- General insurance policy.
We’ll also make a contribution to the charity every time a client refers a colleague, friend, or family member to Altura. So, if you know someone that would benefit from our advice, please recommend them to us and you’ll be helping a great cause at the same time.
